Midwifery means “with woman” and it is supporting women physically, emotionally and spiritually that allows us to feel safe and empowered during the childbearing year and beyond. It is my obligation to support each woman by protecting not only the physical, but the emotional and spiritual space in order for each new mother to own her journey. I feel that birth is a natural, ultimately wise process that each woman and her family have the amazing opportunity to experience in the way that they feel affords them the most safety and comfort. |
It is also my firm belief that birth should not be forced, rushed, or otherwise adulterated. When we begin intervening in a natural process we open the door for intervention. Quiet observation is often a midwife’s most valuable tool. In the same vein I do not feel that any care received by the client should be rushed or forced. Each woman has the right to a thorough understanding of her care and the processes involved. |
